Milt Jackson and Ray Brown in a rare appearance with Stanley Turrentine, Cedar Walton and Mickey Roker. This is - in accordance with the title of this mono capture - undisputed "Real Jazz", with a self-evident yet never cliched sound. The musicians are at the center of their expression, resulting in energetic joyfulness, and that little special bonus which often goes missed in the studio. Combined with short interviews with Brown and Jackson, this is an important document of the state of mainstream jazz from a time when fusion and electric instruments where invading much of the jazz public's attention. The members of this quintet are all developers of that direction in jazz which has the true swing, blend and sound of the blues.
